MELBOURNE, VICTORIA: The $1.8 billion Western Roads Upgrade has reached another milestone, with major work now underway on the Duncans Road interchange in Werribee.

Victorian Treasurer and Member for Werribee Tim Pallas joined Plenary Managing Director of Origination Damien Augustinus, Netflow Western Roads Upgrade CEO Jose Espinosa, Major Road Projects Authority CEO Allen Garner and WBHO Infrastructure Managing Director Peter Ryan on site for an event today marking the start of major construction.

The start of the Duncans Road interchange upgrade marks the sixth of eight major capital works upgrades started since June, improving the safety and capacity of the roads in Melbourne’s west.

More than 11,000 vehicles use the Duncans Road interchange each day, with this number surging during events in the popular tourism precinct that include the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Mansion and National Equestrian Centre.

The upgrade includes constructing a new bridge over the Princes Freeway to provide an additional lane in each direction, new entry and exit ramps from the Princes Freeway, and safer walking and cycling paths.

The Western Roads Upgrade – the State of Victoria’s largest single investment in arterial roads to date – comprises eight high-priority road upgrades with a comprehensive 20-year rehabilitation and maintenance program covering more than 260 kilometres of road across Melbourne’s west.

Plenary is financial arranger, joint project sponsor and joint SPV manager for the project, part of the Netflow consortium – also comprising Cintra as joint project sponsor and SPV manager, WBHO Infrastructure as design and construction lead, and the Amey Broadspectrum joint venture as services contractor – contracted by the Victorian Government to design, build, finance, and maintain the project for 20 years following the completion of the capital works.
