MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Following its partnership with Australian Football League club Richmond to support its Next Generation Academy (NGA), Plenary is thrilled to learn the club has secured its first selection through the NGA program.

Richmond drafted 19-year-old Derek Eggmolesse-Smith as a Category B rookie at the recent 2018 Rookie Draft.

Established to introduce the game of Australian-rules to boys and girls from Indigenous and multicultural backgrounds, supporting the Next Generation Academy is the first sponsorship of its kind for Plenary.

Plenary Chairman Mr John O’Rourke said he was delighted with the program’s early success.

“To see it having such an immediate impact by creating the right sporting and cultural environment for indigenous and multicultural young people is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved,” Mr O’Rourke said.

The NGA  aims to create a culturally-affirming environment and to provide a talent-identification pathway, and builds on the tremendous success of Richmond's centre for Indigenous youth, Korin Gamadji Institute (KGI), and the connection KGI has created with Aboriginal communities in regional Victoria.

An exciting and quick player, Eggmolesse-Smith came to the club’s attention participating in the KGI Richmond Emerging Aboriginal Leadership program. He then joined the NGA program following its launch last year.

Richmond General Manager - Football Talent Dan Richardson welcomed Eggmolesse-Smith to the club, saying his selection is a credit to the club, the Korin Gamadji Institute and the Next Generation Academy.

“It reinforces that our Next Generation Academy provides a genuine pathway for Indigenous and multicultural boys and girls to play elite football, and we look forward to more success stories like this,” Mr Richardson said.

Earlier this year Plenary announced a three-year partnership with Richmond’s Next Generation Academy.
