MELBOURNE, VICTORIA – The café, restaurant and retail offering at Melbourne’s premier biomedical precinct is set to go up a notch with Plenary Health leasing a number of spaces at the $1 billion Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) Project.

Plenary Group Chief Operating Officer, Glenn Hay, said there are five hospitality/convenience spaces available through leasing agent Fitzroys closing 5pm Friday 18 July 2014.

The spaces are set within in the VCCC Project’s all-new 13-storey South side facility located on the intersection of Flemington Road, Grattan Street and Elizabeth Street in Parkville. All are expected to commence trade around mid-2016.

The spaces on offer include:

  • Specialist coffee and grab and go;
  • Asian influenced cuisine;
  • Convenience/General store (possible espresso bar);
  • Signature café/restaurant; and
  • Level 7 café/function space.

“It is our vision that these spaces will provide all users of the facility including patients, carers, visitors, researchers and clinical staff with a variety of exciting and nutritious food offerings to complement the Project’s focus on health and wellbeing,” Mr Hay said.

Jointly funded by the Victorian and Federal governments, the VCCC Project comprises the new 130,000sqm South side facility as well as the construction of four new floors on top of the existing Royal Melbourne Hospital 1B Building. Bridges over Grattan Street will enable patients, staff and users to walk easily between the two buildings.

The all-new VCCC Project South side facility will become the new home of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and also incorporate additional capacity for Melbourne Health and the University of Melbourne, with new clinical, research and educational facilities.

The Victorian Government has contracted Plenary Health to design, build, finance and maintain the VCCC Project South Side facility for a term of 25 years. Construction of the facility is well underway and is anticipated to be operational by mid-2016.
